Myofascial Release:The IlioTibial Band (ITB) A tight or inflamed ITB can present acutely as pain on palpation and chronically as pain down the side of the leg and/or knee pain with possible swelling at the knee. ITB Syndrome can be caused by overuse, i.e. too many miles run, static postural dysfunction e.g. pelvic malalignment or movement dysfunction e.g. incorrect Lunge Pattern and/or Squat Pattern. Treatment involves Myofascial Release followed by PNF Stretching. This may form part of a more extensive program focussing on strengthening the Lumbo-Pelvic-Hip complex and releasing tight muscle groups such as the hip flexors and hamstrings.
